Bye Bye Carol and not before time
Carol Thatcher, daughter of the blessed Margaret, celebrity show contestant and all round annoying twat has been binned by the BBC's The One Show. Not for being rubbish (which she undisputedly was) but for comparing an as yet unnamed tennis player to a golliwog.
Once again, the issue of political correctness is in the news, but media lawyer Mark Stephens (pictured) is in no doubt that the Beeb is well within its rights.
'If you can imagine any workman for example, coming into your office, then in those circumstances, if they spoke in a way which was racially or sexually offensive, you would have the right to terminate their employment with you,' he said, 'and in just the same way the BBC has it within its power if someone says something on its premises whether it's someone as exalted as Carol Thatcher or as lowly as a toilet cleaner then in those circumstances the person has the right to have their employment terminated, right there and then.'
Not that Mr Stephens, given the state of his hair, is in anyway sensitive to golliwog jibes.
